PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF ETHANOL FROM BIOMASS

Disclosed is a process which enables the production of ethanol from a glycosylated biomass with high efficiency even when a fermentation inhibiting substance is present in the glycosylated biomass. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing ethanol from a biomass, which comprises the steps of: mixing xylose-utilizing yeast that has been so transformed as to over-express at least one gene for a metabolism enzyme involved in a pentose phosphate pathway with a glycosylated biomass; and culturing the mixture.
