<p>The invention provides a method to identify or characterize compounds for treating cancer wherein the compounds have a capacity to decrease systemic levels of one or more cholesterol metabolites in treated mammal(s). Such compounds include 17-(3-pyhdyl)androst-5,16-diene-3ß,7ß-diol, 17-(2- morpholinyl)-7ß-ethylandrost-5,16-diene-3ß-ol, 17-(2-morpholinyl)-7ß- ethylandrost-5,16-diene-3ß-ol-16-acetate, 17-(4-oxazolyl)-7ß-ethylandrost- 5,16-diene-3ß-ol-16-methyl ether and 17-(4-oxazolyl)-7ß-ethylandrost-5,16- diene-3ß-ol. Compositions and formulations comprising the compounds and one or more excipients are also provided.</p> |
