PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television system for sending messages narrowing down a target to users. SOLUTION: The interactive television system uses an interactive television program guide application or other interactive applications to provide users with interactive television services. An E-mail application or other message switching application is used to receive messages. The message switching application is separable from the program guide application or other interactive television applications, or becomes a part of the program guide application or other interactive television applications. A process to target a message is performed on the basis of the television channels to which the user subscribes, settings the user has established in the program guide application or other applications, or any other arbitrary suitable criteria.
