PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing optically active cyanohydrins, by which optically active cyanohydrins widely used as a raw material for medicines or agrochemicals can be obtained from an aliphatic aldehyde by an industrially simple method in high purity and in a high yield. SOLUTION: The optically active cyanohydrins can industrially easily be obtained in high purity and in a high yield, from aliphatic aldehydes and a cyanizing agent such as inexpensive hydrogen cyanide or acetone cyanhydrin by using an organic metal complex comprising a (R, R)- or (S, S)-bisoxazolylpyridines and aluminum chloride as a catalyst.
