PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the usability of a mobile robot, even for a proximity sensor, for improving safety used also for traveling control. SOLUTION: The mobile robot includes a moving mechanism which moves the body of the mobile robot, a proximity sensor which detects an object approaching the moving mechanism from a plurality of directions, and a control unit which controls the moving mechanism, according to signal from the proximity sensor; and when the mobile robot is in a standby state and the proximity sensor detects an object, in a direction differed from the advancing direction of the mobile robot, the control unit moves the moving mechanism in the advancing direction.
