PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accepting the input of a prescribed character from a user, searching data (character string) stored in the image forming apparatus itself, and furthermore performing quick search by using a keyword in the searching, and to provide a retrieval method, a computer program and a recording medium. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus generates a keyword based on a character string acquired from the read data, and stores the keyword and the acquired character string in association with each other, and when accepting the input of the prescribed character, the image forming apparatus searches the character string including the accepted input character based on the keyword.
