PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector for preventing damage of a transparent body film and a method of assembling the same. SOLUTION: In the optical connector, a refractive index matching film is stuck to the tip surface of a ferrule through which an optical fiber holding hole is penetrated while covering the optical fiber holding hole, and the tip surface of the optical fiber penetrating the optical fiber holding hole is butted on the refractive index matching film. An abutting plate deformed via the refractive index matching film by a longitudinal pressing force of the fiber occurring during insertion of the fiber is arranged removably with respect to the refractive index matching film.
