PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a running speed detector that contributes to positive suppression of vibration and noise. SOLUTION: A stabilizer 17 for inhibiting vibration of a chord region 4b of a chain 4 wound between first and second pulleys 2 and 3 divides an insertion way 25 for inserting the chord region 4b therethrough, and is supported by the chord region 4b. First and second displacement sensors 18 and 19 are supported by the stabilizer 17 having a high followability to position change, etc. of the chord region 4b. The first and second displacement sensors 18 and 19 output signals correlating to a running speed V based on the recession and projection change caused by the running of the chain 4.
