Apparatus for cutting out shapes from textile sheet material comprises a support 1 for the material 3 to be cut, a laser 10 mounted in spaced relation from the support so as to direct a light beam thereon when energized, and means to move the laser so that its beam moves along a predetermined path upon the surface of sheet material on the support. As described, the laser head 10 is supported on a transverselymovable carriage 9, which is mounted on a longitudinally-movable bridge 5.
