<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and light DC power supply apparatus having high efficiency of conversion. <P>SOLUTION: The DC power supply apparatus applied to a railway car driven by power supplied from an AC overhead wire includes: a rectifier circuit which rectifies AC power supplied from the AC overhead wire; a smoothing capacitor which smoothes DC voltage supplied from the rectifier circuit; a back flow preventing diode arranged between the smoothing capacitor and the rectifier circuit, which prevents backflow to AC overhead wire side from the smoothing capacitor; a reactor which is connected in series to the back flow preventing diode between the back flow preventing diode and the rectifier circuit and can store current energy; and an inverter circuit which is connected in parallel with the smoothing capacitor and connected to a load.
