PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for producing a liquid crystal compound having a high resistivity value by recrystallizing operation, to provide a liquid crystal composition using the liquid crystal compound obtained by the method for production, and to provide a simple method for recrystallization by which the liquid crystal compound having the high resistivity value is obtained. SOLUTION: A compound represented by general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>-(-A<SP>1</SP>-Z<SP>1</SP>-)<SB>a</SB>-A<SP>2</SP>-Y<SP>1</SP>(wherein, each symbol is specially defined) is purified by column chromatography using a hydrocarbon-based solvent alone or in a mixture as a developing solvent, and the solvent is partially distilled away from the resultant solution and recrystallized or, without distilling away, recrystallized, and the solvent used for the recrystallization is then distilled away.
