PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image heating device using a rotatable belt member 13 and a sliding member 1 having a rugged shape 2 formed on its surface, wherein the edge breakage of the belt ends caused by the rugged shape 2 of the sliding member 1 is reduced. SOLUTION: The formation range of the rugged shape 2 on the surface of the sliding member 1 is set so as not to be exposed outside both width-ends of the belt member 13 when the both width-ends of the belt member 13 reach the shift control positions F and R, respectively. Accordingly, the belt ends are prevented from being damaged by the rugged shape 2, then, the edge breakage of the belt ends caused by the repeated shifts of the belt member 13 in the width direction is reduced.
