Mascara preparation (I) comprises: (a) at least an acrylate copolymer based aqueous polymer dispersion with a solid content of 45-65 (preferably 50-60) wt.%, and film-forming properties; (b) at least an ammonium acrylate copolymer-based aqueous polymer dispersion with a solid content of 30-50 (preferably 35-45) wt.% and film forming properties; (c) at least an acrylate copolymer based aqueous polymer dispersion with a solid content of 20-40 (preferably 25-35) wt.% and viscosity-increasing properties; and (d) at least a base. An independent claim is included for preparing (I), comprising dispersing one or more colorants in at least one solvent, adding (a) and (b) under homogenization and under vacuum, adding at least a base and/or at least a solvent under stirring, and adding (c) under stirring and under vacuum.
