A photovoltaic (PV) cell 10 for use in a solar panel comprises an array of photovoltaic cell strips C. Above the PV strips C are layers A, D of clear material e.g. plastics or glass. Layer A is corrugated in shape and may be coated with a highly reflective material on the upper sides of channels B so that incoming light is reflected and concentrated onto the PV strip surface 11b. The top layer D may be made of the same acrylic clear material and both provides stability and keeps the PV strips clear of dirt. The corrugations may be in the form of a saw-tooth, triangle or be of a smooth sinusoidal shape. The light is magnified by the corrugations thereby increasing the output efficiency of the PV panel. The PV strips may be amorphous PV strips. The layers of clear material may be manufactured in a continuous extruded array or in a strip. |
