The plug-in connector (1) has a plug-in section (4) formed with an outer surface (5) and partially inserted into a connector receptacle (6) of a socket (2). A protective element (21) surrounds the outer surface and is acted upon during insertion of the plug-in section into the connector receptacle of the socket so as to release the outer surface. The protective element is partially changeable in length and an end of the protective element is fixed at a plug-in connector housing (3). The plug-in connector housing is made up of electrically insulating material.
