PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tensioner with small sliding resistance, and capable of being stably used for a long period of time for a chain or a belt. SOLUTION: The tensioner includes a band-like sliding surface made of a rubber-like elastic material for sliding the chain or the belt, side wall parts provided on width direction both sides of the sliding surface such that the chain or belt does not deviate from the sliding surface, and a mounting part disposed with a band-like metal reinforcement plate integrally provided in a rear face side of the sliding surface and for swingably carrying out holding in a housing side in a one end side.
