The method involves dosing a reagent medium into an exhaust area (12) of an internal combustion engine (10) for operating an exhaust gas control unit (22), with which a nominal dosing operation is provided corresponding to dosing requirement (NOx-vk,NOx-vk-sim). The dosing compared to the nominal dosing operation is increased, if the reagent central temperature (te-rea) exceeds the reagent central temperature-threshold value (te-rea-lim). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for operating a dosing device; (2) a controller program for operating a dosing device; and (3) a controller program product for operating a dosing device.
