<p>1,005,500. Storing liquefied gases. CONCH. INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. July 24, 1964, No. 29753/64. Heading F4P. A container for storing liquefied gas comprises an impermeable outer wall 5 of heat insulating material, a permeable intermediate layer 6, and a lining 7 having a liquid permeability of no more than 10<SP>-3</SP> times the gas permeability of the intermediate layer. The liquefied gas which diffuses through the lining 7 collects in the intermediate layer 6 subsequently vaporizing, to escape through pipes 10 to a vent 9. The outer wall 5 is supported by the inner steel hull 3 of a double-hulled ship 1 having a layer of adhesive 4. The outer wall 5 may be constructed from balsa wood, quippo or a plurality of foamed plastic panels, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, polystyrene epoxy resin or polyethylene. Alternatively the outer wall may be formed from a core of balsa wood, cork board or calcium silicate sandwiched between a pair of plywood layers. The intermediate layer is formed of, e.g. polyurethane, P.V.C. or phenolic foam, perlite, glass wool, expanded aluminium or stainless steel, polytetrafluoroethylene, expanded polypropylene or foamed aluminium. The material for the lining may be, e.g. polymer films, glass fibre, aluminium, stainless steel, glass reinforced epoxy or polyurethane resins or alternatively copper or aluminium films sprayed on to the intermediate layer.</p> |
