PURPOSE: An image interpolation apparatus is provided to perform image interpolation using a reference block according to the direction. CONSTITUTION: An image interpolation method comprises steps of: creating a horizontal direction reference block about an inputted image(160); creating a vertical direction reference block about the inputted image(170); and determining an interpolation directionality about the image using the created horizontal direction reference block and the vertical direction reference block(180).
