PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive device capable of determining loss of synchronization with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The motor drive performs pulse energization to a coil in accordance with a prescribed interval, and thereby makes a rotor rotate. The motor drive includes a position sensor for detecting a position of the rotor, and a loss of synchronization determination means of determining the presence or the absence of loss of synchronization, based on the output of the position sensor; the loss of synchronization determination means does not determine the presence or the absence of loss of synchronization, based on an output of the position sensor between a position preceding an aimed stop position of the rotor by a prescribed number of pulses and a position preceding the aimed stop position of the rotor by one pulse.
