The method involves compressing a piston ring (1) in the circumferential direction, so that the piston ring engages a round contour. The piston ring is pressed in the condition by a coated die. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing a circulating carrying mirror at a profiled circumferential surface of a piston ring.
