PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for toner, capable of improving charge stability at high temperature and high humidity while retaining low temperature fixability and storage stability, and to provide a toner including the polyester resin as a binder resin. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for toner is obtained by condensation polymerizing a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component, wherein an aromatic compound represented by formula (I) is used as the carboxylic acid component and/or the alcohol component, wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>each independently denote H or hydroxyl, provided that both R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are not H, and X denotes -COOR<SP>3</SP>(R<SP>3</SP>is H or 1-3C alkyl) or -CH<SB>2</SB>OH.
