PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring television camera system capable of immediately focusing a lens to attain monitoring in the best state, whenever a camera is turned to an arbitrary monitored place. SOLUTION: A database is built in a focus controller 16 beforehand, and stores a suitable focus control value of a lens 11 for every fixed angle of the revolving angle and the elevation angle of a camera 12. During monitoring, the focus controller 16 receives data of the revolving angle and the elevation angle of the camera 12 from a turntable 13. Moreover, while the optimal focus control value is acquired with reference to the database based on the received data, a focus driving mechanism of the lens 11 is controlled based on the optimal focus control value. Thereby, the optimal focus state according to the direction of the camera 12 is always obtained from the database, and focus control can always be performed appropriately for the lens 11.
