PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short ark type discharge lamp disposing a hollow vessel while the hollow vessel is not fixed to an arc tube and an electrode in short arc type discharge lamps sealing a hydrogen getter absorbing hydrogen and including the hollow vessel transmitting hydrogen within the arc tube. SOLUTION: In the short arc type discharge lamp, a pair of electrodes 13, 14 composed of body sections 13A, 13B and shaft sections 13B, 14B connected to the body sections is opposingly disposed within the arc tube 11, and the hydrogen getter where a getter material absorbing hydrogen is sealed is provided within the hollow vessel transmitting hydrogen.
