METHOD OF PREPARING 5-HYDROXYMETHYLFURFURAL FROM SEAWEEDS

PURPOSE: A method for preparing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from marine algae is provided to synthesize 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and to lower fuel production cost. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing 5-hydroxymethylfurfural comprises: a step of adding hydrolysis catalyst to polysaccharide isolated from marine algae to prepare monosaccharides; and a step of treating the chemical catalyst to monosaccharides. The polysaccharide is gelidium jelly, carrageenan, alginic acid, or cellulose. A method for extracting the polysaccharides comprises: a step of dipping the marine algae in an alkali solution and washing with water; a step of dipping the washed marine algae in an extraction solvent and extracting gelidium jelly, carrageenan, alginic acid, or cellulose; and a step of isolating the extract and collecting remaining fibers.
