An adjustable centre device for a lathe tailstock designed to facilitate taper turning comprises a centre element 11 mounted on a slide block 2 which slides on a slide plate 7 carrying a taper spigot 18 for attachment of the device to a lathe tailstock. An adjusting screw 3 which engages a nut 5 secured to the slide plate 7 is used to set the centre element 11, suitably graduated scales being provided to indicate the amount of offset. Locking screws 16 clamp the members 2, 7 together when the centre element 11 is in the offset position. A spirit level may be provided to ensure that the device is set so that the centre element 11 is displaced in a horizontal plane. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown), the adjusting screw operates on a nut attached to the sliding member carrying the centre element.</p> |
