A gun comprises a barrel 10 partially housed within a recoil jacket 9 which is mounted by trunnions 7 at or adjacent its rear end on two parallel trunnion mountings 6. Each trunnion mounting 6 extends forwardly in a carriage trail 15, the trunnion mounting 6 and trails 15 being mounted within the periphery of a first member, e.g. a plate 54, which is rotatably mounted on a second member, e.g. a plate 55 or ring. The rotation may be effected by a gear wheel and gear arc assembly. When the wheels 19, 20 (not shown) of the gun carriage are raised from their travelling position the plate 55 engages the ground and may be fastened thereto by stakes 57. The gun is elevated by two hydraulic lifting bars 46, 47 (not shown) under the control of sights and aiming gear attached to the carriage shields 40, 43 (not shown). In a modification the trunnion mount-carriage trail assembly has connected thereto outwardly extending, wheel carrying arms, the wheels running in a track on the second member (Figs. 4 to 6, not shown). The track may comprise a gear circle, the wheels then being replaced by gear-wheels.</p> |
