<p>A free floating check valve (10) includes a seal disc (12) having an integral truncated torroidal shaped portion (16). The torroidal shaped portion (16) provides structural rigidity to the seal disc (12) to minimize deflection of the disc under higher differential pressures. The torroidal shaped portion (16) of the disc (12) cooperates with finger-shaped projections (24) inside the valve body (22) to limit lateral displacement of the disc (12) relative to the axial flow of the fluid. The torroidal shaped portion (16) and the flat portion (14) of the disc (12) form a cup shape that creates a hydrodynamic force that assists in moving the disc (12) to an opened or closed position. The seal disc (12) is made of an elastomeric material that is coated with Parylene.</p> |
