PURPOSE: A direct current power supply apparatus and an air conditioner using the same implement high efficiency and proper power factor under low load while suppressing a power source harmonics. CONSTITUTION: In a direct current power supply apparatus and an air conditioner using the same, a rectifier circuit changing the AC power inputted from an AC power source(101) into a DC power(102). A reactor is connected between the AC power source and he rectifier circuit(105). A switching unit(106) is short circuit through a reactor. A power source detection unit(107) detects the frequency of the AC power source. A zero cross detection unit detects the zero-cross point of the AC power source A DC power source detection unit(109) detects the DC voltage. A switching control unit(108) is synchronized to the zero-cross point and makes the switching unit short circuit or open.
