The device (1) has antenna units (4a-4n) connected in rows by a connecting line. Each antenna unit has an active antenna (5) and a switching unit (6) for generating a local switching control signal (7) to transmit supply voltage (8) and a radio frequency identification (RFID) signal (9) to the successive antenna units. The connecting line conducts the supply voltage and RFID signal. The switching unit has a radio frequency (RF) switch comprising an input connected with the upstream antenna units by a capacitor. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling antenna units.
