PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyglutamic acid having homogeneous optical purity and a high molecular weight in order to provide polyglutamic acid having homogeneous optical purity, high ability of moisture retention and thickening. SOLUTION: The microorganism produces poly-γ-L-glutamic acid having a molecular weight of 1,300,000 or more and homogeneous optical purity under liquid culture conditions. The method for selecting the microorganism and the method for producing poly-γ-L-glutamic acid with a high molecular weight using the microorganism are provided.
