The generator (1) has a heating side (3) turned toward an exhaust gas system (2), and a cooling side (4) turned away from the exhaust gas system. Thermoelectric elements (5) are arranged between the heating side and the cooling side. A thermal sensor (6) is provided for temperature measurement, and a module carrier layer (7) is arranged at the heating side and at the cooling side. The thermal sensor is arranged at the heating side and at the cooling side. The thermal sensor is attached to the module carrier layer by sputtering technique. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting an operating point with a thermoelectric generator.
