PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outer cover gripping member that is usable to optical fiber cables which are different in size. SOLUTION: The outer cover gripping member 1 includes; an outer cover gripping member body 5 having a bottom 2 and a right and left side walls 3, 4; and an openable/closable cover 7, the member 1 being a molding integrally formed with a resin has an outer cover gripping space 8 which is rectangular and cylindrical. A plurality of grasping pawls 11, which are triangular in their cross sections, vertically long and parallel to each other, are formed, opposite to each other, in the internal faces of the side walls 3, 4, and protrusion pawls 12, 13 are formed in the internal faces of the cover 7 and bottom 2. The width of the outer cover gripping space 8 is 1.85±0.15 mm, and its height is 3.5±0.3 mm, and the interval between the tops of the grasping pawls 11, which are opposite to each other, is 1.20±0.05 mm. When the grasping pawls 11 have such a size, the pawls 11 grasp both an optical drop cable 15A of 2.0×3.1 mm and a small-diameter optical indoor cable 15B of 1.6×2.0 mm in a state, in which the grasping pawls 11 are properly encroached, to generate cable-detaining force.
