PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a display apparatus having the same are provided to prevent the light leakage phenomenon and local luminance degradation. CONSTITUTION: An image reception unit receives an image signal, and an image processing unit processes an image signal received from the image reception unit. A display panel displays the image signal processed by the image processing unit in image signal. Plural light guide plates(100) emit light to each display region, and a light source module(200) irradiates light to a lateral side of the light guide unit.
