PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing an unsaturated aldehyde and an unsaturated carboxylic acid, and a method for producing an unsaturated aldehyde and an unsaturated carboxylic acid.

SOLUTION: The catalyst includes a cylindrical member 11 having a shape of a coil helically wound around with a specified gap apart and a plurality of pillars 12 bonded thereto along the axial direction thereof, and a catalyst component comprising a composite oxide at least containing molybdenum, bismuth and iron or a catalyst component comprising a heteropolyacid compound at least containing phosphorus and molybdenum. The catalyst comprising the composite oxide is used in producing an unsaturated aldehyde or an unsaturated carboxylic acid. The catalyst comprising the heteropolyacid compound is used in producing methacrylic acid.
