PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire tread which improves the on-ice frictional force while maintaining wear resistance and in which the temperature dependence of hardness is small. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire tread includes (A) 100 pts.mass of diene-based rubber, (B) 3-15 pts.mass of a mixture of aliphatic acid methyl esters and (C) 0.5-20 pts.mass of thermally expansible microcapsules. The mixture of aliphatic acid methyl esters is obtained by subjecting a mixture of aliphatic acids, extracted from soybean oil, rapeseed oil or a mixture of them, to methyl esterification, and contains 30-40 mass% of methyl linolate and 40-50 mass% of methyl oleate.
