[Also in Division F2] A hollow boss for a marine propeller has blades (1a), Fig. 1 (not shown), attached thereto or integral therewith and an inwardly-orientated circumferential flange (2) engaging with a spigot (15) formed on a similar flange (14) at the end of a hollow propeller-shaft (13), said flanges being coupled to each other by a plurality of tubular sleeves or dowels (19) lodged in axiallyaligned apertures (17) and containing bolts (16) which are secured by nuts (21) engaging with collars (20). The interiors of the boss and the shaft are sealed by plates (23, 24) attached to the flange (14) and a further circumferential flange (4) at the opposite end of the boss, respectively, a fairwater cap (25) being fixed to the boss adjacent the flange (4). Dowels (30), Fig. 5 (not shown), are lodged in alternate apertures (17) to effect proper alignment thereof while the dowels (19) and bolts (16) are being placed in the intermediate apertures. A screwthreaded sleeve or adapter (35) on a screwthreaded rod (32) in each of the dowels (30) is fitted with a nut (not shown in the drawings) to secure the dowel in the corresponding apertures (17). Rotation of the rod (32) relative to the dowel (30) while the end of the rod abuts an intermediate circumferential-flange (3) in the boss serves to drive the dowel into the apertures. Subsequently, the dowels (30) are replaced by the dowels (19) and the associated bolts (16). In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), an additional flange (41) is formed within the propeller-shaft (40) and relatively long bolts (43) lodged in said flange engage with dowels (45) in the flanges (2, 14), the dowels and the bolts being secured by nuts (47) and washers (48). Screw-threads (49), Fig. 8 (not shown), are provided in each of the dowels (45) to facilitate extraction thereof from the apertures (17). An annular oil-seal (22) may be provided on the exterior of the shaft adjacent the boss.</p>
