The sharpener has a sharpener body (1) including a conical sharpener channel (2) with an insertion opening for inserting a pencil to a cutting edge (5) of a sharpener blade. The channel has a gap-like opening (7) in an area of the cutting edge for chip formation and chip removal during sharpening. A locking element (8) fills the opening in a locking position (S) in sections and releases the opening in the area of the cutting edge in an operating position. The cutting edge is arranged tangential to an arc-shaped cross-sectional line (9) of the channel. The locking element is integrally formed with the sharpener body.
