Method and server for providing advertisements to a mobile phone over a network. Space is reserved space at a location on a mobile phone display for the purpose of displaying advertisements. An advertisement server interrogates the mobile phone to determine the display capabilities of the mobile phone. An advertisement is provided from an advertiser to be displayed at the reserved space on the mobile phone display using the advertisement server, said advertisement being in a form suitable for display on said mobile phone display in accordance with said display capabilities.
