<p>An internal combustion engine (10) comprises a chamber, inlet valving (24, 26) operable to admit constituents of a combustible mixture into the chamber for combustion therein, outlet valving (16) operable to release an outflow of liquid from the chamber as an energy output of the chamber and a control (28). The control controls operation of the chamber such that combustion of the combustible mixture generates a first pressure increase in the chamber to initiate movement of the outflow of liquid and combustion of hydrogen separated from a hydrogen containing compound within the chamber during combustion of the combustible mixture generates a second pressure increase that acts on the outflow of liquid, the second pressure increase acting on liquid put in motion by said first pressure increase.</p> |
