A method of analysing the corrosion levels on a surface of a structure comprises the steps of capturing and analysing video images of the structure. The step of analysing each image comprises selecting 56 an area of interest within an image, assigning 60 a value corresponding to colour properties to each pixel within the area of interest, and calculating 62 an average value for the area of interest. The average value is compared 64 to a set of reference number averages corresponding to a set of standard corrosion levels in order to determine 66 a corrosion level for the image. The disclosed invention particularly relates to the assessment of corrosion levels to generate reports on pipework conditions in offshore environments. The method may be implemented using a camera system which may be worn (eg head-mounted) by a user, wherein the camera may be a 3D video camera. The camera system may additionally comprise audio/sound recording means in order that the user may record an associated audio commentary during the inspection process. |
