[Also in Division F2] A control arrangement for electropneumatic rail vehicle brakes of the type in which any one of at least three lines is connected to a supply source, each connection combination providing a particular braking condition, comprises a potentiometer 5 to the tap of which are connected a number of circuits equal to the number of control lines. Each circuit comprises a relay A, B or C and a number of Zener diodes some of which, 9, 11, are bridged by normally closed contacts on the relays. Assuming that tapping on the potentiometer 5 starts from zero, and is gradually increased, then initially all relays are de-energized. Increasing the tap potential to the Zener point of diode 12 (2 volts) causes relay C to operate and connect line 15 to supply 17. A further increase in potential to the Zener point of diode 10 (5 volts) causes relay B to operate. Contact b<SP>1</SP> then opens to switch diode 11 in series with diode 12 so that relay C releases. Line 14 is then connected to the supply. A further increase in tap potential to above 9 volts (Zener potential of diodes 11, 12 in series) causes relay C to re-energize so that lines 14, 15 are both connected. Further increases in tap potential result in the energization of relay A alone, relay A and relay C, relay A and relay B, and finally all three relays. The outputs on lines 13, 14, 15 may therefore have eight different combinations representing "off" and seven degrees of braking depending on the setting of potentiometer 5.</p>
