A method of filling gas cylinders comprises disposing the cylinders 13 on a lorry pallet 11 for transport to a filling station 17 where the pallet is set down on rollers 15 to pass through the station for connection to pressure pipes 19 and after filling to pass to a further lorry 10. In a modification a larger plant is provided for simultaneous connection of a plurality of pallets which are loaded and unloaded at the same side of the station.
