PURPOSE: A topic measuring method and apparatus thereof by using ontology are provided to accurately classify and search a document by topic. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of keywords and frequency of each keyword are extracted from a document(202). A matrix and triangular matrix are generated by using the extracted keyword(204). Average distance between extracted keywords is calculated on an ontology isA hierarchy structure(206). One or more keywords are selected as a main topic of the document(208).
