Air quality sensor which causes a checklist to be generated on a display

Disclosed is an atmospheric safety monitoring device. The device includes a remote sensor unit located in an area (4) of a vessel (3), the sensor unit adapted to sense two or more selected atmospheric contaminants and to communicate data from the sensing to a display unit (1). The display unit displays the results of the sensing and determines if the results indicate that a level of an atmospheric contaminant is outside of an acceptable range, and in that case to initiate selected alert behaviour. The selected alert behaviour includes displaying steps of a checklist of responses associated with the detection of the contaminant in the area.
