PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for expanding a housing complex with a stairway room, which overcomes the problems of the conventional method for expanding a housing complex with a stairway room, such as external hallways installed far away from the complex, which is one of the reasons to extend construction periods and increase cost and also which is an obstacle to proceed the architectural planning. SOLUTION: In the extension method of the housing complex with a stair room, the external hallway 4 having the same height as the floor height of each story is newly installed approaching along the front face of the existing building in the existing building 1 of the housing complex with a stair room. From a landing 2a on the middle story of the existing outdoor stair connected to the doorway of each dwelling unit, an orthogonal stair 3 which is connected to the existing stair in the orthogonal direction and is connected to the external hallway is newly installed, and an elevator 6 connected to the newly installed external hallway 4 is newly installed.
