<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for selectively binding and separating at least one component from whole blood or a body fluid to solve a problem related to an inflammatory process. <P>SOLUTION: The method for selectively binding and eliminating at least one component from the whole blood or body fluid allows the blood or body fluid to pass through a rigid integral separation matrix without being excluded therefrom. The matrix has a porous structure with a pore size ranging from 5 to 500 microns and an active surface ranging from 0.5 cm<SP>2</SP>to 10 m<SP>2</SP>.
