PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus of an inkjet system using an intermediate transfer body, which solves the problems of vaporization of an ink solvent and attachment of foreign matter near a nozzle without providing a cap member (capping mechanism), and which keeps the performance over a long period. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a recording head 10 comprises a nozzle plate 11 having a plurality of nozzles 13, an ink chamber 15, ink 12 as liquid contained in the ink chamber 15, and an ink ejector ejecting the ink 12 from the nozzles 13, and the like. When printing (image forming) is finished and the image forming apparatus goes into a resting state, the intermediate transfer body 20 is pressed to the recording head 10 shown by Fig.1(b). By such capping operation, nozzle faces are blocked into a substantially sealed state by the surface of the intermediate transfer body 20, and each nozzle 13 is intercepted from outside air.
