<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detection device for detecting the intensity of environmental light without a light reception element dedicated to environmental light detection, and to provide a display device with position detection function, and an electronic apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the display device 100 with position detection function, illumination light emitted from a lighting system 40 is modulated by a liquid crystal panel 20 to display an image. An intensity distribution of position detection light rays L2a-L2d comprising infrared light is formed in a detection region 10R set in a region overlapping the image, to detect the position of a target object Ob. Position is detected in a blanking period that follows an image display period in one frame cycle.
