PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and an image forming apparatus, capable of changing the master of system control including signal control with an external device from a CPU on a main board to a CPU on an expanded CPU board when the expanded CPU board is mounted. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes a mother board 10, an expanded CPU board connector 19 provided on the mother board 10 and for mounting the expanded CPU board 20 mounted with an expanded CPU 21, external device connectors 12A and 12B provided on the mother board 10 and for connecting an external device, a detection unit for detecting that the expanded CPU board 20 is mounted on the expanded CPU board connector 19, and a mother board CPU 11 mounted on the mother board 10 and for executing control so as to change the master of the system control including the signal control with the external device from itself to the expanded CPU 21 of the expanded CPU board 20 when it is detected by the detection unit that the expanded CPU board 20 is mounted.
